I've been trying to reach you via email, without success. Please mail me
the ARC version of the program to do screen dumps to a 24 pin Epson printer.
Thank you!

worked with TOS 1.4. Well, to answer the question, it works just fine. In
fact, I haven't really had any problem with anything NOT working with the
new tos, except for a few really old games. The DM2, of course, works
just fine with the new tos!

I just purchased my 1040 ST , oh, about a year ago, and I can affirm
that it only came with Atari BASIC. Now, I hesitate to call Atari
basic an actual language, but I suppose you can technically call it
that. As for paying for such a thing...Ick! Anyone who wants to
program on their computer is bound to go and purchase a programming
language of their own, so when you get right down to it, it isn't
necessary to include a programming language with the computer. I
would have liked to have received a little bit more documentation on
the machine then I got, though. That little tan booklet they give you
covers the basics rather lightly, it would be nice to know more about
the machine without having to buy a book somewhere else.

Well it seems that the LHARC is going to take over the atari archiving
world. I for one use a UNIX system for posting and recieving news
and binaries. I uudecode, and unarc on the unix system and examine
the stuff before going through the expense of going home, making a
LONG DISTANCE call to work and download the stuff. If LHARC is to be
the new standard (which I can see the benefit in smaller archives) I'd
like to get the source so I can port it to our UNIX system.
If the source is protected (which it seems to be) then I don't think
I'll be downloading any more files unless I know what to expect in them.
I hope that the source is available!
I think that the majority of readers on the net here are on UNIX machines
and would also like to get LHARC on thiers also.
Just my $0.02 worth.

Yes. It's called Stevie (ST VI?). I'm not sure where you'd be able to
get it from, though. I got my copy from the University of Lancaster, UK,
via a friend. I've only used it a little bit, and well, it's OK, but the
major reasons for using it in my eyes aren't yet implemented. There is no
global change facility ('ex'-type command), and the undo facility isn't
implemented yet. There are large chunks missing, really. It's also very
slow at doing inserts. I guess it's OK if you're hell-bent on using 'vi',
but I prefer to use micro-emacs (currently 3.8b, shortly to be 3.10)
for the simple reason that it's *much* more fully implemented.
Does anyone else know where Steve could get hold of Stevie in the US?
I've only got a binary, by the way. If necessary, I guess I could uuencode,
compress & post it. Any takers?

Quick ST 1.8 - the Software Screen Accelerator, is now available. It is
up to 25% faster than Quick ST 1.7 at GEM related operations, and now has
support for the Viking Moniterm 19" monitor.
Quick ST 1.8 will be in the stores shortly. If you are a registered user
of Quick ST 1.7, send us email requesting an update. The email path is:
...!watcgl!electro!brasoft!updates
Do not send the mail until after the Christmas weekend, because our node will
be down over the long weekend.
Quick ST 1.8 still uses only 20K of memory in monochrome/Moniterm mode, and
16K in color.
A demo version of Quick ST 1.8 can be downloaded from the Atari ST libraries
of Compuserve and GEnie information services.

Why does everyone have such a problem with forwarding Usenet messages
to Genie? There are already other services out there that provide
access to Usenet messages for a fee. Not everyone has access to Usenet
through their place of work.
No one will be forced to pay Genie for access to Usenet messages.
If anyone posting to Usenet doesn't like the idea of people having to
pay, then they can choose not to post.
The beauty of Usenet is that it is difficult for anyone to force their
form of tyranny on anyone else.
That is my two cents worth. Copy me directly on any replies -- I am
waiting by my mailbox with a bucket of cold water.

There is no legal restriction to who may connect to USENET, therefore there
is no binding vote that can restrict who may so connect. Further, since
there is no legal restriction to who may connect to USENET, there can be
no legally recognized distinction between sites. Thus site restriction
messages in notices of copyright are legally meaningless. Yet further,
there is no general information flow restriction that can be legally
enforced for any site or group of sites.
But beyond those mere matters of legality and ethics (which refute the
information stoppee's at every turn). Ask yourself this simple question.
How long do you think GEnie users will sit still with not being able to
post to the messages they can read from USENET?
